Frequently Asked Questions

Find out more about Eddy’s Excavations & Bobcat Hire. Below are some of the questions we’re asked regularly. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for here, contact us today.

  • Can I operate earthmoving equipment in the rain?

Yes. Earthmoving equipment is heavy-duty and able to withstand adverse weather conditions like rain. Drive carefully, use anti-skid chains where appropriate, and make sure to park it in a dry place if possible.

  • What happens if hired equipment gets broken or damaged on-site?

This depends on if the equipment is insured or not, and if you’re doing dry hire or wet hire. Contact us for specifics about our policies, insurance and equipment breakdowns.

  • Do I have to hire a driver with earthmoving equipment?

If a licensed operator is required by law or by the hiring company, you may need to hire a driver if you don’t have a licensed operator of your own. Not all vehicles or projects require licensed operators.

  • Do I need a driver’s license to operate earthmoving equipment?

For work on a private site or private property, you may not need a driver’s license. However, if you’re going to drive the equipment on the road at any point, you need the appropriate license for the type and size of the machinery.

  • Do I need an excavator or a Bobcat for my project?

It’s difficult to answer this without the specific details of the job. Bobcats are smaller earthmovers than excavators, which may play into the type of work you can do with them. Give us a quick call for advice on equipment to use for your next project.
